PGMOL Admits Error in Disallowing Luis Diaz Goal

Statement Issued by Referees' Organization

PGMOL acknowledges "significant human error" in Tottenham match

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) has admitted to a "significant human error" in disallowing a goal by Liverpool's Luis Diaz during the team's match against Tottenham Hotspur.

The incident occurred in the second half of the match, with Diaz appearing to have equalized for Liverpool after a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, the goal was ruled out for offside by the on-field team of match officials.

In a statement released on Tuesday, PGMOL acknowledged that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) made an error in not overturning the offside decision. The statement said that the error was a result of a "lapse of concentration and focus" by the VAR.

PGMOL also issued the following statement:

"The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. The VAR should have intervened to overturn the decision. We acknowledge that this was a significant human error and we will be reviewing our processes to ensure that this does not happen again."
