Attention BC Hydro Customers: Planned Transmission Outages Coming

Essential Maintenance Requires Temporary Power Shutdowns

Mark Your Calendars and Prepare Accordingly

The BC Hydro and Power Authority has announced a series of planned transmission outages across the province, beginning in two weeks' time. These outages are necessary to perform essential maintenance on high-voltage transmission lines to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

The outages will affect over 840 customers on the Sunshine Coast, with potential intermittent power disruptions over the next two weeks. Smaller outages may also occur in Richmond, New Westminster, and Vancouver's east coast.

BC Hydro urges customers to take the following steps to prepare for the planned outages:

  • Conserve water by reducing non-essential use, such as watering lawns or washing vehicles.
  • Charge essential electronic devices and appliances in advance.
  • Keep flashlights and extra batteries readily available for emergencies.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance during the outage.

BC Hydro emphasizes that these planned outages are essential to prevent potential damage to transmission lines and ensure the continued reliable operation of the electrical grid. Customers are encouraged to cooperate and take the necessary precautions to minimize the impact of these disruptions.

For more information and updates on the planned outages, customers can call BC Hydro at 1-800-BCHYDRO (1-800-224-9376) or visit the BC Hydro website at www.bchydro.com.
